The Shure SM7B is a dynamic microphone with a flat frequency response from 50Hz to 20 kHz. Known as one of the broadcast standards for radio talkshow hosts, podcasts and voiceover, it’s also widely used for instrument (try it on a saxophone) and vocal mic’ing in the studio. The SM7b’s “bass rolloff” switch attenuates low frequencies below 400Hz and the “presence boost” switch effects the high-mids by +3dB.
As well as being an excellent microphone for podcast recording and voiceovers, the SM7b dynamic microphone is everything you want in a large diaphragm microphone. It’s solidly built, has an excellent internal shock protection system plus it looks damn sexy. Beautiful on vocals and horns, or anywhere you’d usually use a 58.
